Active Engagement

CSSI Researcher Affiliates are expected to be engaged in social science research and actively involved in CSSI events and opportunities. By becoming an affiliate, researchers will have the opportunity to take full advantage of CSSI programs and resources while contributing to the broader social science community.

What does active involvement look like?

  • Apply for CSSI programs and funding opportunities.
  • Utilize research services and grant development support.
  • Attend networking and research events.
  • Participate in working groups or lead workshops.
  • Serve on the CSSI advisory board.
  • Provide regular updates on your research to our communication and dissemination team.

As a CSSI Researcher Affiliate, we encourage the acknowledgement of designation in publications, grant submissions, CVs, and more. We also ask that affiliates complete a brief annual survey to help us better understand the priorities and needs of both our affiliates and the broader social science community.

Eligibility, Application, & Renewal

Eligible University of Iowa faculty and staff can apply online to become a CSSI Researcher Affiliate through the link below. The application will require your professional details, including title, college, research interests, and intended involvement in CSSI activities. A professional photo and CV are also requested.

After submitting an application, a response can be expected within 2 to 3 weeks. Affiliate terms last for three years, contingent on active participation in CSSI initiatives.

Every three years, CSSI staff will contact affiliates to renew memberships and update professional information. Affiliates can also provide updates directly whenever necessary. If participants wish to discontinue their affiliation, they may opt out of the CSSI Researcher Affiliate Program at any time.
