Client or Primary Investigator: Sang Jung Kim Assistant Professor, School of Journalism and Mass Communication
Project Manager: Cassidy Branch
Project Start: March 23, 2026
Project Description: This survey will explore: how overreliance on AI-mediated communication systems is shaped by physical health factors (i.e., sleep and circadian rhythms) and interpersonal dynamics (e.g., lack of interpersonal networks, perceived social support), and how it interacts with mental health outcomes (i.e., social isolation), ultimately contributing to life-threatening behaviors. The survey data will support our overall objective to identify the physical, psychological, and communicative mechanisms that lead individuals experiencing social isolation to overreliance on AI chatbots.
