Project Description: Since the turn of the 21st century, research subjects for experiments in sociological social psychology have been, on average, primarily White, female undergraduates. This is not simply an “Iowa problem” but is being experienced by scholars throughout the US. We are conducting focus groups of White and African American male undergraduates to begin addressing this nation-wide problem of why there is a lack of diversity in those who partake in our experimental research. The results of these focus groups will inform policies needed to incentivize participation in our important scientific work.
